Dolly Dhamodiwala, Founder & CEO, Business Beacon Management Consultants has put in over 40 yrs. of service in the Corporate sector before setting up her own Consultancy, Research and Training Organization, Business Beacon.
After completing her Master’s in Economics and Diploma in Marketing Management, Dolly commenced her career with the Tata Group as a Consultant in Tata Economic Consultancy Services, TECS (now merged with Tata Strategic Management Centre), where she carried out over 100 consultancy assignments spread over a span of 20 years. Her work included Economic Research, Policy Research and Formulation of Economic, Financial and Industrial Policies, Techno-Economic Feasibility studies, Market and Marketing Strategy, Project Identification, et al. These were for several prestigious clients like the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Centre and State Governments, leading banks and financial Institutions and large companies in the corporate sector.
She joined Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) in 1992 and rose to be the Deputy General Manager. During her 12 year tenure at SIDBI, she served in the Economic Planning and Development Dept., Risk Management Dept., and also set up and headed the Market Research Cell. At SIDBI she developed a keen insight and expertise in the Development and Financing of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and published reports and articles on major issues impacting the MSME sector
Dolly joined S P Jain Institute of Management and Research, one of the top five management institutes in India, in 2007 as a Senior Researcher in the Corporate Governance Cell. At the Institute, she carried out, Empirical Research studies, Executive level Training Programs and conducted high level conferences on topical subjects in the areas of Corporate Governance and Risk Management in publicly listed companies with a focus on Family Owned Companies. These were for the National Foundation for Corporate Governance (NFCG), promoted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, National Stock Exchange, Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and others.
Dolly has developed a deep insight into the issues facing Executive and Independent Directors, Chairmen and Business Promoters, especially in the Mid Cap and Small Cap companies and Small and Medium Family Owned Businesses.
She is a member of several international groups of experts on Corporate Governance and Board Dynamics, Risk Management, Consultants Network, et al.
She has been trained as a trainer in Corporate Governance and Board Leadership by Global Corporate Governance Forum (GCGF), IFC, World Bank Group. She is also a Certified Corporate Director and a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD). She can hence make valuable contributions as an Independent Director on Boards of Listed and Unlisted Public Limited Companies and also Private Limited, Family Owned Companies.
As founder & CEO of Business Beacon, she provides, Consultancy, Research, Training and Advisory services in various key areas of Corporate Governance, including Compliance with Regulatory Governance Framework, Board Leadership and Effectiveness, Board Evaluation, Risk Management and Internal Controls. She has made presentations on trends and issues in Corporate Governance, Board Leadership, Board Diversity, Risk Management and other topical subjects at various forums. Dolly also mentors and trains Executive and Independent Directors, Institutional Directors and Women Directors, CFOs, Company Secretaries and CEOs to be more effective and contribute meaningfully on their Company Boards.
Dolly provides advice and guidance to MSMEs, Family Owned Businesses, Startups and Women Entrepreneurs for raising finance for their businesses, developing business plans and designing effective marketing strategies. She is a member of major MSME Associations and Women Entrepreneurs’ Organizations.
